What's the best way to help a child with possible DYSLEXIA?

My son seems to have problems writing sentences out although he can read fairly well. He also has some communication problems, he almost speaks as if he's 7 instead of 9. We are planning to do vision therapies with him since my husband is an eye doctor. We know dyslexia is not just about switching letters around like people think it is although he does switch d's and b's and writes "saw" for "was" but there's a lot more to what he does than that. And it fits with all the info. I've been researching on the internet as well. We think his biological mother did drugs while he was in the womb (he is adopted), anyway now he is the most wonderful child he just has a few problems in school and in communication. He is in special ed cles and has I.E.Ps but the public school system says they don't even test for dyslexia or treat it, they just make "accommodations" to help him and try other things. If you have other great ideas we can do at home, since we can't really afford to send him to this special school I was reading about on the internet since it's a ridiculous 50,000 a year! Thanks for your help!
