How do i play my CDs in the DVD player?

i have a CD-RW high speed Memorex, 700mb 80 min.....up to 12x.... i just copied some of my music on to the DVD player...i and i wanted to listen it to on the DVD player...my DVD player is a Sony ....HDMI 720p / 1080i UPSCALE.....it says RW rewritable DVD.....and it also says R....so that means it can read my CD...but when i inserted the CD, it didn't work...it said couldn't read the disc.....help?
