How do i sue the driver that hitted me?

how do i sue the person that ran over my foot? so i was crossing the street legally, this guy suddenly turns left when he supposed to let the pedestrian walk first. Someone on the street called the police and the ambulance and they took me to the hospital after finished asking me to describe the situation, and then the police went to talk to the guy. I've never seen that guy or heard of him from the police again. How can i sue him now? can anyone show me all step by step i just want to make him pay for the hospital fee stuff. I have a foot contusion btw
